The Rebel T3 / EOS 1100D is Canon's update to its previous budget-focused DSLR.

  • 12MP CMOS sensor
  • 9-point AF system (up from 7 on the 1000D)
  • 63-area iFCL color-sensitive metering (from EOS 7D)
  • 720p movie recording at 30 or 25fps (H.264 compression)
  • 2.7" LCD, 230,000 dots
  • ISO 100-6400 (no expansion)
  • Basic+ creative point-and-shoot mode
  • Eye-Fi wireless SD card compatible menu options

'The Canon EOS 1100D is a solid entry-level performer but doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary. The image quality is decent, it's easy to use and beginners will find their way around the user interface pretty quickly. However, competition in the entry-level market is fierce and it is worth having a closer look at other options as well.' [dpreview - Rebel T3 / EOS 1100D]

Before making final purchase decisions, it's wise to take a look at the Nikon D3100 (larger screen, a 1080p full HD video mode, higher maximum ISO, more AF points and a more powerful built-in flash) and Pentax K-r (higher screen resolution, faster continuous shooting, a larger viewfinder and a more customizable user interface).
