In my opinion, the lack of popularity of the previous Nokia Internet Tablets could be due to the absence of the mobile phone function. This shortcoming was addressed by Nokia in coming up with the N900, and also added the whole nine yards!

The Maemo operating system is a modified version of Debian GNU/Linux, specifically developed for the Nokia Internet Tablet series.
